I take a lot of drug and alcohol tests, so here's what I do know: A standard lab test will not test for alcohol unless the person ordering the test asked for a fairly new, fairly expensive alcohol test that goes back about 72 hours. I was popped on this from drinking the day before and was totally sober that day I was tested, but they were looking either for a metabolite or alcohol that's in you for 3 days or something your body produces for three days after drinking. So unless they know you are a drinker, and think they need to do this special, fairly new, fairly expensive test, you should be fine.

No Alcohol in Urine (Etg Test) A second type of alcohol urine test doesn’t look for alcohol. It looks for one of the by-products caused as it breaks down in the body. That substance is Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG).

Alcohol itself in urine has a relatively short detection window — usually less than a day. But alcohol byproducts, such as ethyl glucuronide (EtG), can be detected in a person’s urine for up to three days after they have consumed their last drink. Other lab tests might also test the urine for ethyl sulfate (EtS).

In fact, the test can detect alcohol in the urine up to five days after consumption. In studies of participants without alcohol -use disorders, EtG has been detected in urine samples for up to 80 hours (3.3 days) after heavy alcohol exposure.

Alcohol Urine Testing – Understanding EtG Testing The first time EtG testing was used to detect alcohol in human urine was in 1997. Since then it has become a common way to confirm abstinence from alcohol and products that contain ethanol. Once alcohol has been eliminated from the body, a breath test or saliva test can no longer detect alcohol.

With some urine alcohol tests, alcohol can be detected up to around 48 hours after a person has ingested alcohol. With the EtG Urine Alcohol Test, however the presence of EtG in the urine demonstrates that ethanol

The Alcohol (Ethanol) urine test identifies the recent use of alcohol. There are different tests that can identify alcohol in urine for several hours up to 80 hours. For how long ethanol can be detected in urine varies by person depending on several factors.

Alcohol Urine Tests Cons. Alcohol urine test have the following negative characteristics: The specimen can be adulterated, substituted, or diluted. They are considered as invasive or embarrassing form of testing. They present a biological hazard when the specimens are handled and shipped to the lab. They indicate the presence of alcohol in a person’s system, but it takes up to 2 hours for the alcohol to; show up in urine.

Essentially, except with exceptionally heavy alcohol consumption, a urine alcohol test done 12-24 hour later would be negative. However, if the test includes the EtG testing, this can detect recent alcohol use for 26-80 hours depending on which reference you believe.

Alcohol levels measure out by blood, urine, saliva, or breath tests. Urine, breath or blood tests are the most common. Urine tests are not reliable. Toxic concentrations can be calculated but depend on individual tolerance.

It’s a myth that any drinking takes 72–80 hours to not be detected by an ETG pee test. It’s the MAX expected for a LOT of drinking over time, for the few % of individuals who can even last that long (small %!).
