In Thailand, you can only buy or be served alcohol between the hours of 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. – midnight. Of course, this being Thailand, your local mom and pop store will probably sell you beer outside of these hours. Though they might refuse if they don’t recognize you. What days can you not buy alcohol in Thailand?

Regular Times You Cannot Buy Alcohol in Thailand You cannot buy alcohol in Thailand between the hours of 2pm and 5pm on any day of the week. While this might seem a little odd to westerners, and particularly to Europeans who are used to being able to buy alcohol whenever they want to, in Thailand it is simply not allowed.

However, you must be aware that in Thailand there are some strict rules regulating the times that convenience stores and other large shops can sell alcohol. This can ruin a good night out so it’s good to know the times – and workarounds! The overall rule is that alcoholic beverages can only be sold during the hours of 11:00 – 14:00 & 17:00 – 00:00 (midnight) every day at stores and supermarkets. These times were introduced by the Prime Minister’s Office in 2015 and apply countrywide.

It is important to note that it is illegal to buy alcohol in shops and supermarkets in Bangkok from 2pm until 5pm. Also, the shops will not sell alcohol from midnight until 11am. You might find this odd – in many countries it is possible to buy alcohol 24/7 – but these restrictions are quite firm in Thailand.
