In Spain, the minimum purchasing and drinking age for alcohol is 18. So, make sure your kids are 18 before they purchase beer or wine even, if accompanied by their parents or other adults. If you want to drive in Madrid (or anywhere is Spain for that matter) then the law states that your BAC (blood alcohol content) limit has to be under a certain limit.

As long as you’re over 18, you can buy beer, cider, wine, and spirits at supermarkets and grocery stores in Spain. It is also only legal for stores to sell alcohol up to 22:00, so don’t leave your purchases too late if you’re planning a party. You can read more about Spanish drinking culture in our guide.

In the UK, the drink driving limit is 0.8 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre of blood, while in Spain it’s 0.5. It can be extremely difficult to determine what your limit is, as it depends on your body weight, how much you’ve eaten and factors such as your metabolism, so if in doubt, don’t drink anything when driving to stay on the right side of Spanish laws.

I'm in Spain right now and you can find booze at the supermarket and anybody can buy it really. I'm pretty sure they need to check your ID, but I don't really know if they do it. In the States, you're going to have either liquor stores, there are some stores that have a liquor section, but not necessarily. Not all stores do carry booze in the States.

We have lunch late. Never before 14h, and 15h is not uncommon. We socialize over food and (when you can afford it in terms of time) a typical lunch will take an hour or more. We again have dinner late. In a restaurant, the typical booking time is 22h. At home in weekdays, maybe 21h or 21h30, but some even later; People watch TV until late (I don’t).

For longer stays you need to have a visa. 90 days/3 months should be enough for most people unless you have been wintering in Spain, in which case you can spend 90 days in Spain but will then have to return to the UK and can only return 90 days later (once the 180 day period is passed) and the 180 day clock starts over.
