The rate is also dependent upon the type of alcoholic beverage sold. In instances where the Florida sales tax rate is 6% normally, the rate applied to the total receipt is 0.0635 when selling packaged goods and 0.0659 when mixed drinks or mixed drinks and packaged goods are sold.

Alcoholic beverages are exempt from Florida sales and use tax in a couple of situations. These are as follows: When wine, liquor and distilled spirits are “provided by distributors or vendors for ‘wine tasting’ or ‘spirituous beverage tasting.’”. However charges to the public for such tastings are subject to sales tax and surtax.

An excise tax is not the same thing as the Florida Sales Tax. The Florida Sales Tax is collected as a percentage of the final purchase price of all qualifying sales, and is collected directly from the end consumer. of the product.. Florida's excise taxes, on the other hand, are flat per-unit taxes that must be paid directly to the Florida government by the merchant before the goods can be sold.
