Whiskey is a strong, sharp liquor that will add some serious heat to your eggnog, cutting out some of the sweetness but still not overpowering the nog. Adding whiskey to your eggnog will give you a bit of a slap in the face – the alcohol will taste strong and will not be as masked as other liquors. How long is eggnog good for? 5-7 Days. How do you defrost eggnog? The best way to thaw eggnog is to remove it from the freezer and place it straight into the fridge, allowing it to thaw completely in the fridge overnight or for a few hours. This is the safest way to thaw eggnog and does not put the ingredients at risk of spoiling.

While brandy is the most traditional add-in for eggnog, according to traditional recipes, the experts at Bottles recommend a mixture of dark rum and Cognac. What alcohol do you add to eggnog? Eggnog is typically made with rum, brandy or bourbon, and Brown likes to start with a combination of dark rum and cognac. But there’s no need to go premium; he recommends using an affordable, high-proof VS cognac. The higher alcohol level will cut through the sweetness of the rest of the ingredients.
