Whiskey is a strong, sharp liquor that will add some serious heat to your eggnog, cutting out some of the sweetness but still not overpowering the nog. How long is eggnog good for? 5-7 Days. How do you defrost eggnog? The best way to thaw eggnog is to remove it from the freezer and place it straight into the fridge, allowing it to thaw completely in the fridge overnight or for a few hours. What alcohol do you add to eggnog? Eggnog is typically made with rum, brandy or bourbon, and Brown likes to start with a combination of dark rum and cognac. But there’s no need to go premium; he recommends using an affordable, high-proof VS cognac. The higher alcohol level will cut through the sweetness of the rest of the ingredients.
