- Wine would act as an antiseptic. It would be like putting rubbing alcohol on a wound. Water would be less effective because it harbors bacteria. Oil would be useful, perhaps. Bacteria don't like to live in it- and it would help keep the wound free from water. It would seal it up to some degree.
