It's a medium-light pink, very slightly fizzy, with good freshness and balance. There's a nice aroma of rosehip, and the wine is mostly dry but not bone-dry. It is more floral than fruity, with dried raspberry notes coming out more with food. Bessa says about 10 different red grape varieties go into Mateus.

Just spent a lovely afternoon in our garden having lunch; quiche, salad, wonderful crusty bread, tomato, boccoccini, basil with olive oil and lots of fresh fruit......Our wine of choice.....a light, refreshing, delightful two bottles of Mateus rose......A perfect complement to our meal and day.
So Mateus Rose have made a sparkling wine that is also based on Baga and Shiraz and it fruity on the nose but bone dry. At around 12% alcohol, it is a great summer sipper. Quite delicious!
The wine itself is delicious, refreshing, a good colour and not too sweet. In fact I think this is one of the best rosé I have ever tasted, and it is inexpensive too. The newly redesigned Mateus is excellent as aperitifs or with food, such as fish, seafood, Chinese and Asian cuisine and light meals
The taste is terrible. The bottle has no production date but is marked bar code No: 5 601012 011500. The label has a Malay text saying it is imported by Caldbeck MacGregor (M) Sdn. Bhd. in Selangor (in Malaysia). I have been drinking quite a lot of Mateus wines, but this one is probably old and has been stored in warm climate for too long.
