Community Reviews (5) mateus. Just spent a lovely afternoon in our garden having lunch; quiche, salad, wonderful crusty bread, tomato, boccoccini, basil with olive oil and lots of fresh fruit......Our wine of choice.....a light, refreshing, delightful two bottles of Mateus rose......A perfect complement to our meal and day.

So Mateus Rose have made a sparkling wine that is also based on Baga and Shiraz and it fruity on the nose but bone dry. At around 12% alcohol, it is a great summer sipper. Quite delicious!

The wine itself is delicious, refreshing, a good colour and not too sweet. In fact I think this is one of the best rosé I have ever tasted, and it is inexpensive too. The newly redesigned Mateus is excellent as aperitifs or with food, such as fish, seafood, Chinese and Asian cuisine and light meals

The taste is terrible. The bottle has no production date but is marked bar code No: 5 601012 011500. The label has a Malay text saying it is imported by Caldbeck MacGregor (M) Sdn. Bhd. in Selangor (in Malaysia). I have been drinking quite a lot of Mateus wines, but this one is probably old and has been stored in warm climate for too long.

Mateus Rosé Original is a rosé with a very appealing and bright hue. On the whole, it is a fresh and seductive wine with fine and intense bouquet and all the joviality of young wines. In the mouth, it is a well balanced and tempting wine, brilliantly complemented by a soft and slightly fizzy finish.
