To test its pH, collect a sample of water in a small, clean container. Once you have your sample, prepare your probe by running it under clean water, or take your litmus paper out of its packaging. Then, place the test in the water. For litmus paper, a few seconds in the water will normally produce a clear reading.

Here's the answer: seltzer is carbonated water with no additives. Club soda has sodium or potassium salts added. These are alkaline and increase the pH of carbonated water. Other popular, flavored soda drinks tend to be acidic: root beer has a pH around 4.5, while Coke and Pepsi have a pH of around 2.5.

There are two methods to measure the acid content in a beverage. They are the initial acidity (pH) and the titratable acidity (TA). Beverages with a lower pH typically have greater erosive effects on the teeth, but the TA level is the more accurate way to determine the erosion potential in a certain beverage. pH measures acid strength, and TA measures the amount of acid present.
