I would not recommend alcohol consumption at all. For many people though, Paleo is not simply something you do to get where you want to be, it is a lifestyle! You want to be able to socialize and have a few drinks without derailing your lifestyle or lying in bed all weekend with a hangover. With this in mind, you may not want to totally abstain from enjoying a celebratory beverage this holiday week and you may as well make the best choices that you can with your alcohol selection.

If you are a former alcohol drinker, you don’t have to punish yourself by abstaining from drinking alcohol, even on the Paleo diet. If it is your first time drinking (good on you!). Enjoying the odd Paleo diet alcohol drink may be a great start. However, always keep in mind to drink in moderation and with a good meal.

One of the main tenets of the paleo diet is removing processed foods and toxins from your diet. Alcohol happens to be both a processed food and a toxin. So, the short answer is drinking alcohol is not ‘Paleo’, but it does form a part of many people’s lives.

The Paleo (cave man) diet doesn’t forbid alcohol. The key to successfully imbibing alcohol while living Paleo is choosing the right adult beverages and consuming them in a responsible, intentional way. There’s an appropriate time to enjoy a moderate amount of alcohol to unwind or to celebrate.

Alcohol technically isn’t Paleo. It doesn’t offer anything nutritionally you can’t find by eating a well-balanced Paleo diet… But that doesn’t mean you have to quit drinking.
