My family runs various humidifiers in the house all winter. We are pretty good about making sure they get cleaned weekly but even at that interval, occasionally mold will grow. We notice this especially on the evaporation kind. Last year, a friend told me to add just a table spoon or two of rubbing alcohol to eat gallon of water to prevent the mold.
