You can carry liquids in checked baggage, but you will have to do some research and take precautions. If it's an issue, just get a metal water bottle with a screw top. They're commonplace and available at any outdoor store and likely even at big box retailers like Walmart. REI would be a good place to check. As noted, the cargo hold is same pressure as cabin - somewhere about 8,000 feet at maximum.

If you’re unsure, check the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection site for travelers. Most types of alcohol won’t be a problem in checked baggage though anything over 140 proof , such as grain alcohol and very strong rum, is not allowed in carry on or checked baggage.

Carbonated beverages have CO2 dissolved in them under pressure. As this pressure is released or reduced, then this gas can dissipate and thus cause fizziness as it escapes from the drink. At a standard cruising altitude, which would presumably be quite high, the air pressure is less than at sea level so the gas can escape easier than at a lower elevation where the air pressure is higher.
