As I understand it, you're only able to buy pure alcohol in UK for industrial / commercial purposes - you could theoretically pay the duty and buy it as a private individual, but you'd have a hard job getting anyone to supply you.

There are many places to buy rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol in the UK. The easiest way to buy some rubbing alcohol is on Amazon. There are lots of different brands and strengths on Amazon, however, always read the reviews before you buy. There are some bottles of isopropyl alcohol that are marketed as 70% when in actual fact they are only 30%.

You have to go to a good quality pharmacy and get it there. It’s very cheap and IPA or Isopropyl Alcohol. The most popular strength is 70% or 99.9%. If you want large quantites, theh you can pay around £15-£20 for 5ltrs

Apparently you can get pure food grade alcohol (okay, 96%) through your local friendly pharmacist. He probably won't get it for you unless you are known to him and he's happy with your proposed use. ☺. I say this because someone in another forum says they get it from their chemist. Probably not by the bucketful though.
