No. An expired ID can't be used to purchase alcohol since this would promote an illegal aftermarket for old IDs. So for instance, if an ID expires but could still be used to purchase alcohol, its owner may be tempted to sell it to an underage person who could pass as them. You are supposed to show the attendant or clerk a valid ID.

The simple answer is that sometimes you can use an expired driver's license as a photo ID and sometimes not, but mostly not.
