SD stands for specially denatured in reference to alcohol. It is ethyl alcohol that is denatured to render it nonpoisonous, but still to taste bad and thus render it unfit for consumption. SD 40b apparently by some sources is isopropyl alcohol so a lot of research is needed to determine what alcohol you are dealing with.
